The Latin American and Indian markets will be a priority for Glonass, Russia's global satellite navigation system, Russian Space Systems Deputy General Director Grigory Stupak said on Tuesday.

Glonass is Russia's answer to the U.S. Global Positioning System, or GPS, and is designed for both military and civilian uses.

"Priority markets today are Latin America and India," Stupak said.

A group of 31 Glonass satellites are currently in orbit with 24 needed to provide global coverage.

Three reserve Glonass satellites were launched in November after three satellites were destroyed in a failed launch last year.
