Boeing to deliver support equipment for Poseidon aircraft

Boeing has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for ancillary equipment on the P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

The deal, announced Monday by the Department of Defense, is valued at more than $21.5 million. The contract is a modification to a previous Pentagon award under the terms of a firm-fixed-price-contract.

The modified contract from Naval Air Systems Command enables Boeing to provide seven special mission pod deployment mechanisms for the P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

The Poseidon is an anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare aircraft designed to work in conjunction with the MQ-4C Triton, a unmanned aerial vehicle, for maritime patrol operations, according to the Navy.

Work on the contract will occur in Missouri and Texas with an estimated completion date of November 2020.

The total cumulative value of the contract will be obligated to Boeing from Navy fiscal 2018 aircraft procurement funds, the Pentagon said.

The obligated funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year in September.

Air Force picks three bases for B-21 Raiders

The U.S. Air Force announced Friday the B-21 Raider will replace the B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit at bomber bases in Texas, South Dakota and Missouri. The new long-range stealth bomber, which Northrop Grumman is developing in Palmdale, Calif., will be housed at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas, Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota and Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, the Air Force announced this week.
