Today's event follows last month's announcement that Airtricity began construction of the 209 megawatt Roscoe Wind Farm, a project so vast that it will span three counties and nearly 30,000 acres when completed. Like the Forest Creek Wind Farm, TXU Wholesale will purchase the electricity generated by the Roscoe Wind Farm.

Airtricity's other Texas-based wind farms under construction include the 126 megawatt Champion Wind Farm and the 90 megawatt Sand Bluff Wind Farm. When completed, the company will generate more than 550 megawatts in the state. Approximately 1,000 megawatts of new wind capacity is expected to be installed in Texas in 2007, which would be a record annual increase.

"Airtricity is fast becoming one of the largest wind power operators in Texas, the state that leads the U.S. in installed capacity," said Airtricity North America CEO Declan Flanagan. "More and more businesses and policy makers are recognizing the economic and environmental advantages of wind power."

Texas is leading the world in harnessing clean, native wind energy and in addition to adding much needed tax revenues to school districts, the Texas wind industry is creating employment and opportunities in a range of disciplines, including construction, operations and maintenance.

The Forest Creek Wind Farm will provide the equivalent of 10 full time jobs during its operation over the next 25 years. Many more are currently employed in Airtricity's construction projects in Texas. The Roscoe and Champion projects will, at peak, employ more than 500 people in the construction effort. In addition, Airtricity is renovating vacant commercial space in the town of Roscoe to act as its regional operations center. When complete the operations center will employ more than 20 workers.
