Lexington - June 22, 1998 - Raytheon has received a $10.1 million contract for the initial production of 32 Navy Extremely High Frequency (EHF) Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Program terminals Medium Data Rate (NESP MDR) communications upgrade kits. The contract, awarded by the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, San Diego, Calif., includes options for an additional 109 systems, training and life cycle support valued at up to $105 million.The upgrades will be installed on various Navy combatant ships, submarines and shore stations worldwide. The MDR upgrades will enable higher data transmission rates of secure, multimedia, command and control information for real time targeting, strike and fire support among cooperating ships, aircraft and shore forces.
This key EHF MDR SATCOM award to Raytheon Systems Company adds to other ongoing Navy SATCOM efforts that include the AN/WSC-6; the Global Broadcast System (GBS) Shipboard Antenna System; and, the Navy EHF SATCOM program.
