Intersputnik International Meets For 32nd Time

Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications has been on the satellite communications market since 1971. The Organization includes 24 member countries. Intersputnik provides integrated communications services to broadcasters, telecom operators and corporate customers via the LMI-1 satellite (75� East) of Lockheed Martin Intersputnik joint venture as well as three Russian Express-A series satellites. Under the distribution agreements Intersputnik provides marketing and sales of satellite capacity and telecom services of the Eutelsat system that includes 23 communication satellites as well as those of the Gascom system (Yamal-200 series satellites). The Intersputnik system incorporates over 50 ground stations for trunk links and more than 1,500 VSAT and TV distribution terminals. The Organization is headquartered in Moscow, Russia.

At the invitation of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Russian Federation the 32nd session of the Board of the Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications was held in Moscow on 26-27 November 2003. The session was attended by the delegations of the member countries of the Organization.

Mr. L.D. Reiman, Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Russian Federation, Plenipotentiary Representative of Russia on the Intersputnik Board was unanimously elected Chairman of the Intersputnik Board for the next term during the session.

In his report to the session, Intersputnik's Director General Mr. G.G. Kudryavtsev noted that "the principal indicators of Intersputnik's business show the steady development". It was specially highlighted that Intersputnik had "not only preserved its potential, �, but also found new perspective projects for its business".

During the session, special emphasis was laid on the progress in the implementation of the Intersputnik-100M project to create a fleet of small communication satellites carried out in close cooperation with the major Russian manufacturers of satellite systems: M.V. Khrunichev State Space Research and Production Center, M.F.Reshetnev NPO PM, and NPO Mashinostroyeniye.

The session of the Board reviewed and adopted resolutions on the day-to-day activity issues and perspectives of the Organization's development aimed at further increase of efficiency of Intersputnik's business.

Special attention during the session was paid to the implementation and all possible promotion of new high-tech satellite services such as connection to the high-speed broadband Internet backbone, establishment of broadcasting channels on the basis of digital platforms, provision of multimedia services to the potential clients on a turn-key basis.

Delegates of the session highly estimated the efforts of the Intersputnik Directorate for further intensification and diversification of Intersputnik's cooperation with such major satellite operators as Russian Space Communications Company, Eutelsat S.A. (France), Indian Space Research Organization, Gascom (Russia).

Mr. Josef Dolecki, citizen of the Republic of Poland was unanimously elected Deputy Director General of Intersputnik.

EMS Technologies Wins Khrunichev Contract For Satellite Repeaters

Under a contract worth US$23 million, a Canadian unit of EMS Technologies has won a contract to supply Moscow-based Khrunichev State Research and Production Center, with three flight satellite repeaters and one engineering model.
