Russia launches military satellite
MOSCOW (AFP) Apr 24, 2003
Russia Thursday launched a Proton-K rocket carrying a military satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, Russia space officials said.

The rocket blasted off at 0423 GMT and the satellite was successfully placed into geostationary orbit 10 minutes later, said the officials, quoted by the Ria-Novosti news agency.

It is the second time in less than a month that Russia had placed a military satellite into orbit, following a launch on April 2 Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the north of the country.
